Memorial Day Event at the Richfield Historical Society

Come and spend the afternoon learning about the origins of Memorial Day. Memorial Day came out of the aftermath of the Civil War as a way to honor the fallen soldiers of the Civil War. Learn about the GAR organization (Grand Army of the Republic). Sit and listen to stories told by Civil War interpreters. Learn about medicine at the time of the Civil War. Talk to women who supported the soldiers through their work at home here in Richfield and throughout Minnesota. Read letters from soldiers to their families on the Homefront. Have fun watching cooking demonstrations over an open fire. Listen to the music of the mid 19th century. Visit the center and see the special displays for this event, as well as the rotating displays and permanent displays. See what life was like in the mid 19th century.
