The Great Depression, World War II, and the prosperity of the 1950s’ these are the events that defined America’s Greatest Generation. Through hard work and personal sacrifice the men and women of the Greatest Generation brought the country through difficult times and built it into the most powerful nation of the 20th century.
At the end of World War II members of this generation rushed into Richfield. Some were coming home, but most were new to the community. All of them found a farming village unprepared to meet the needs of a mushrooming population. Continuing their tradition of sacrifice and service, these men and women worked together to meet this challenge. Richfield’s Greatest Generation: Joining Together to Shape a Suburb illustrates how thousands of Richfield residents participated in organized service and social groups that strove to improve local infrastructure, education and government. Working together Richfield’s Greatest Generation created a first-rate, first-ring suburb.
