Rightfully Hers, An Exhibit Commemorating the 100th Anniversary of Women’s Right to Vote and Women Leaders In Richfield
August 22, 2020 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Richfield, MN…On August 22, 2020, the Richfield Historical Society will host a new pop-up exhibition from the National Archives, Rightfully Hers, commemorating the 100th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment. Rightfully Hers contains simple messages exploring the history of the ratification of the 19th amendment, women’s voting rights before and after the 19th, and its impact today. Despite decades of marches, petitions, and public debate to enshrine a woman’s right to vote in the constitution, the 19th Amendment – while an enormous milestone – did not grant voting rights for all. The challenges of its passage reverberate to the ongoing fight for gender equity today.
This will have a local focus as well, with the addition of memorabilia and documents relating to important Richfield women of the past and present. The program will include remarks given by influential Richfield women. This exhibit runs through October 10, 2020.
The Richfield Historical Society is pleased to offer this Exhibit commemorating the Centennial of the Woman’s Right to Vote. To accommodate all individuals who will wish to view this exhibit, the fact that we are expanding the exhibit to reflect influences of women leaders from Richfield, and we have asked a number of women leaders to offer remarks the expanded exhibit will be located outside the museum on the opening weekend. We are asking all visitors to mask for safety and we will work to maintain social distancing. The exhibit also features educational programming which the Historical Society will offer to Richfield teachers during the school year. The Richfield Historical Society is located at 6901 Lyndale Ave. South, Richfield, MN. Our hours are noon to 4 pm Wednesdays and Saturdays throughout the year. The Exhibit and the Museum is free to the public. We are requesting a $5.00 per person donation.
